Often I am met with blank looks until I rephrase my answer as "The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, the predecesor of TES IV: Oblivion". As soon as Oblivion is mentioned people seem to have an immediate understanding. While Oblivion is a very good RPG, with brilliant graphics and flashy combat, to me it lacks the thing that made Morrowind, and the Elder Scrolls franchise so great. It lacks the lore, the story, the character.
To me, Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls itself, is not just a game. It is a way to experience a whole new world of complex history and myths, where nothig is certain. A place of incredible landscapes and outstanding geography. A society not unlike our own, but different in many ways. I cannot properly describe the way I veiw The Elder Scrolls universe. Only read about it, and use Morrowind as my portal.
One thing I'm sure most Elder Scrolls enthusiasts will agree on is the effect of the ingame books on deriving lore. Elder Scrolls games contain books which, depending on what NPC wrote them, will contain information, ranging from lots to hardly any, on different aspects of lore and history. The brilliancy of course is that some of these books conflict with each other, or describe things in different ways so that no-one besides the developers really knows the whole idea.
Anyway, in an attept to cleanse myself of some of my fandomness, and also to clarify my ideas and knowledge of Elder Scrolls lore, I shall be writting a series of journals on depicting the History of Morrowind as I understand it. If anyone has questions on Morrowind lore, then please ask me, and i'll do my best to answer; or find a link
